Terms of use

Your book is yours

You keep every right in your manuscript and in the files this tool produces from it. Nothing here claims a licence over your work, and nothing could: your manuscript is never transmitted to this site, so there is nothing to claim a licence over.

Sell the output, give it away, publish it anywhere. No attribution to this site is required in your book or anywhere else.

The typefaces

The print PDF embeds a subset of the typeface you chose, and the EPUB can embed it too. Every typeface here is under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, which expressly permits embedding in a document, including one you sell, with no attribution and no further permission. The full licence text is on the licences page.

What you may not use it for

Do not use it to format material you have no right to format: work that is not yours, work still in copyright that you do not have permission to reproduce, or content that is unlawful where you are. This is the ordinary limit and it is the only one.

Do not attempt to overload, probe or interfere with the site’s hosting. (There is not much to interfere with: it is static files.)

No warranty, and what that means in practice

The tool is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. In plain terms: it is written carefully and tested, and it can still be wrong about your particular book.

Order a printed proof copy before you publish a paperback. Every print-on-demand service offers one and it costs a few pounds or dollars. No screen preview, not this one and not any other tool’s, shows you what the inside margin looks like on a book you are holding open. This is the single piece of advice on this page worth acting on.

Amazon’s requirements are reproduced here from their published help pages and are dated on the pages that quote them. Amazon can change them without notice, and does. The authoritative version is always Amazon’s.

To the extent the law allows, Damien Yvert is not liable for any loss arising from use of the site, including a rejected upload, a reprinted proof, or a published file you are unhappy with. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid to use the site, which is nothing.

Availability and price

The site is free and there is nothing to subscribe to, no account to create and no payment details to enter. It is offered with no guarantee that it will remain available, though the intention is that it does.

If optional paid extras are ever added, the EPUB export and the print PDF export stay free. A formatter that holds the file hostage after you have done the work is the thing this was built to avoid, and adding a paywall to the export button would be a different product wearing the same name.
